Courses Taught
BIO 402/602- Practical Microscopy Lab
The course covers a variety of current microscopy methods with extensive hands-on experience in applying these optical techniques. The goal is to provide practical knowledge in the implementation of microscopy to any area of research. Prereq: Any prior course that includes use of a microscope or consent of instructor. BIO 402 is an upper level elective for the undergraduate Biology major.
BIO 404/604- Advanced Genetic Analysis
This course focuses on the application of contemporary genetic analysis, such as the use of mutagenesis and other gene-specific manipulations, use of genome-wide approaches, and use of quantitative genetic analysis, to understand biological processes. The emphasis of the course is on experimental approaches using model eukaryotes, relying on primary scientific literature and web resources. Prereq: BIO 304 or equivalent or consent of instructor. BIO 404 is an upper level elective for the undergraduate Biology major and fulfills a specified elective in the Genetics, Genomics, and Bioinformatics Track.
BIO 429/629- Developmental Biology
This course provides an introduction to the principles of developmental biology, particularly of animals, including genetic and environmental control of development at the molecular, cellular and physiological levels. Prereq: BIO 304 or graduate standing in life sciences or consent of instructor. BIO 429 is an upper level elective for the undergraduate Biology major and fulfills a specified elective in the Cellular, Molecular, and Developmental Biology Track.
BIO 425- Senior Seminar in Biology
This seminar develops effective analysis, presentation, and discussion skills required of Biology majors by exploring various life science topics of interest to faculty and students.
