Between one half and two thirds of the world's turtles and tortoises are in danger of extinction. The threats are entirely because of human activities and therefore could have been prevented. However, unless immediate and drastic action is forthcoming, many species that have survived for 200 million years will be extinct within the next 2-10 years! Indeed, for many species it may already be too late. |
