CHINESE LANGUAGE, LITERATURE AND CULTURE
The University of Kentucky invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Chinese to begin August 2009. Responsibilities of the position encompass teaching undergraduate courses in Chinese language, literature, and culture, including multidisciplinary topical courses in English, pursuing an active research program, and contributing to the development of an undergraduate program in Chinese Studies in the Department of Modern and Classical Languages, Literatures and Cultures and to Asian Studies across campus. Chronological period is open, with a preference for pre-twentieth century. Teaching load consists of two courses per semester. Applicants are expected to have a PhD in Chinese or a related field in hand by July 2009 and must have native or near-native fluency in both Mandarin Chinese and English. Teaching experience appropriate to the position is required. Competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Short-listed candidates will be asked to provide a statement detailing current and projected research, related publications or writing samples, and a teaching portfolio. Initial interviews will then be conducted via phone or teleconference and three finalists selected for on-campus interviews.
