Rules Governing the Regional Fair

 

PLEASE MAKE A NOTE: If a county fair is in place then the project must place or be an overall winner at a county fair to be eligible for the regional fair. So for schools within FAYETTE COUNTY the students must have placed at the COUNTY FAIR. (Honorable mention is accepted).

1. Exhibits of any of the basic subject areas designated may be entered by any students enrolled in any class from grades 4 through 12 in any public, private, or parochial school in the in the following counties:

Bell, Bourbon, Breathitt, Casey, Clark, Clay, Estill, Fayette, Floyd, Franklin, Garrard, Harlan, Jackson, Jessamine, Knott, Knox, Laurel, Lee, Leslie, Letcher, Lincoln, Madison, Magoffin, McCreary, Menifee, Montgomery, Nicholas, Owsley, Perry, Powell, Pulaski, Rockcastle, Scott, Whitley, Wolfe, and Woodford.

2. A contestant may participate in only one ISEF affiliated science fair in the same year. A student who will have reached age 21 on or before May 1, 2012 is not eligible.

3. A contestant may enter only ONE exhibit.

4. An exhibit cannot be an identical replica of one shown by the same exhibitor or same group at a previous regional science fair unless the project is considerably expanded or developed. This development must be explained in writing.

5. Exhibits must be confined to a table or floor space of 61 cm front to back by 122 cm side to side, or smaller. Projects must be less than 274 cm high, floor to top.

6. Exhibitors must provide their own display surfaces, as only table space will be provided. Therefore, support should be prepared for all materials that are to stand erect.

7. Record Books outlining the purpose of the project, procedure used, source of data and information, summary and conclusions, etc., must be kept and made available for observation and examination by the judges for all exhibits. Emphasis should be placed on the project report. The report should be free of spelling and grammatical errors. Remember you must be present at the specified time during the judging of the exhibits, and your exhibit and record book must be available to the judges.

8. Construction of exhibits must be durable, and movable parts firmly attached for safety precaution. All switches and cords for 110-volt operation must be of an approved variety. Electrical cords should be at least 10 feet long. (Electrical outlets are provided upon request. Note space on application form.)

9. No live animals (vertebrate or invertebrate), preserved vertebrate animals or parts, including embryos, may be exhibited. Research involving the use of animals may display drawings, charts, or graphs to illustrate the conditions, developments, and results of the investigations. Photographs of surgical techniques depicting vertebrate animals in other than normal conditions may not be displayed on the student's exhibit but may be contained in an accompanying notebook. Any application for a senior high project involving vertebrate animals, human subjects, recombinant DNA, or tissues must be accompanied by copies of all completed certification forms required by "ISEF Rules for Research" to be eligible for exhibiting space. 10. Anything, which could be hazardous to public display, is prohibited. This include live pathogens, microbial cultures, fungi, any flame or flammable material, any chemicals including water. Use drawings, charts, or graphs to illustrate conditions. What you did and what you found out are much more important than the materials used.

11. The exhibitor's school affiliation must not be visible until judging is complete.

12. No project will be admitted for exhibition unless it has been rated of a superior quality through competition in a local science fair at a school or a county science and engineering fair. Projects which place 1st or 2nd, or are an overall grade level winner, a special award winner, or receive honorable are eligible for the regional fair, subject to the fair director's approval.

13. Applications of exhibit entries must be obtained by the fair director no later than Feb. 27, 2013. The exhibitors' fee is $15 per person. Teams thus pay a $15 fee for each member. Fees must accompany each submitted application or may be paid at registration on the day before the fair or if need be day of fair. Entry fees are not refundable.

14. Exhibitors will be asked to register on-line at CKRSEF web site, http://web.as.uky.edu/Biology/faculty/cooper/CKYscience/. Exhibitors are asked to make sure information submitted is complete and accurate. If an electrical outlet is not requested on the registration, none will be provided the day of the event. No exhibitor will be permitted to change categories, age groups, or exhibits the day of the event.

15. All exhibits must be placed in and removed from the exhibit hall at the time specified by the regional fair committee.

16. First, second, etc., awards will not necessarily be given in each category. Awards will be given according to standards to be determined by the judges. The decision of the judges is final.

17. Neither the CKRSEF Board, the cooperating groups, nor sponsors assume any responsibility for loss or damage to any exhibit or part thereof.

Dear Science Teacher,

If you have a student coming to the CKRSEF regional fair you might want to know about the safety forms.

For most all students it will not take much time to fill these out but for those that worked with animals or particular chemical compounds then there might be a number of items to fill out. FOR HIGH SCHOOL students (INTEL rules) all forms must be completed. For the Jr division (5th -8th grade) the kids might have a chance at the Broadcom Masters program and they will likely need these forms filled out when they submit for the program. For kids going to the STATE fair they require a complete set of forms. You will know who those students are after our fair.

....o Added question regarding weight loss or death of any animal.
....o If weight loss or death occurred, the student needs to attach documentation from qualified individual.

Removed the certification/documentation of student researcher training.

4th-8th grade: (these are MODIFIED FROM THE HIGH SCHOOL INTEL FORMS)- MADE EASIER for the 4th-8th grades- fill out the best you can)
